Program Description
- Public, private and home-schooled students can earn college credit while still in high school! It’s possible thanks to the Dual Credit/Early Admission program at San Jacinto College. By taking two courses per fall and spring term, high school juniors and seniors can earn up to 24 hours of college credit before graduation! Students can earn even more hours by enrolling during the summer. What a great way to get a jump-start on a college education!
- The Dual Credit program allows qualified high school students to attend San Jacinto College and receive college credit, as well as high school credit, for certain college-level courses.
- The Early Admission program allows qualified high school students to earn early college credit only by enrolling in college courses other than those identified by their high school as approved for Dual Credit. The Early Admission program also provides an additional opportunity for students participating in the Dual Credit program to earn even more college credit before high school graduation.
Reasons to Participate
- Benefit from quality college instruction in a small academic environment.
- Fulfill some requirements for the Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP).
- Save money by gaining college hours while still in high school with lower tuition and fees and no extra room and board costs. (Our costs are about one-fourth to one-half of university tuition amounts for the same courses!)
- Accelerate the successful completion of a Certificate Program, an Associate’s Degree, or the first courses toward a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Ease the transition from high school to college with experience as a Dual Credit or Early Admission student.

Program Requirements
- In order to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity to get a head start on college, you must fulfill the following requirements:
- A – Complete a San Jacinto College application.
- T – Verify that TSI testing requirements have been met by appropriate scores on the TAKS, SAT, ACT, THEA, or COMPASS.
- T – Submit a current high school transcript directly to the Admissions Office at the SJC campus of your choice.
- P – Obtain a signed permission form from your high school as approval for your participation in the program.
- Contact the Dual Credit/Early Admission coordinator on the SJC campus of your choice if you have questions about these requirements.
Cost Information
- Tuition and fees for students enrolled in classes approved for Dual Credit are half price! Dual credit students should check with their high schools to see if the student is responsible for the remaining 50% of the tuition and fees.
- San Jacinto College offers Texas Public Education Grants (TPEG) to qualified Dual Credit students who are responsible for the remaining 50% of tuition and fees.
- Tuition and fees for students enrolled in classes approved for Early Admission are full price.
Example of Approximate Costs of the Dual Credit Program
- If the student is responsible for the remaining 50% of the tuition and fees, the approximate costs for 6 hours of college credit in one semester are:

- Note: Any legal resident of Texas living within the boundaries of the Pasadena, Deer Park, La Porte, Galena Park, Channelview, or Sheldon school districts will be charged in-district tuition.
- Students who are responsible for the remaining 50% should consider applying for a Dual Credit Student TPEG.
Applying for TPEG
- Application requirements:
- Complete a paper version of the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid (FAFSA). Submit your FAFSA to your SJC campus Financial Aid Services Office. DO NOT MAIL in the envelope provided and DO NOT APPLY over the internet.
- Complete the “Dual Credit Student Application for Texas Public Education Grant”, including the Statement and Affirmation section. Submit it to your SJC campus Financial Aid Services Office with your FAFSA.
o Financial Aid eligibility requirements:
• Meet eligibility requirements for the Dual Credit/Early Admission program.
• Meet SJC Academic Requirements for Receiving Financial Aid.
• Male students between the ages of 18 and 25 must register with Selective Service, if you are required by law to do so. Males may register at any U.S. Post Office or on the internet at http://www.sss.gov/. (You must have a Social Security Number to apply over the internet.)
o Information for Parents
• Applying for Texas Public Education Grant benefits to assist your student in paying for college education expenses does not jeopardize the current immigration status for you, your spouse, or your children. While FAFSA requires the income earned by the student and the parents of the student and the Social Security or Tax Identification Numbers, if you have them, they are not then reported to any offices of the federal government. The information is only for consideration of the student’s eligibility to participate in State of Texas funding.Contact Information:
