How to Prepare for the General Scholarship Application

  1. To prepare for the General Scholarship Application you must have received your Student ID (G#). To obtain a Student ID you must have completed a New Student Application and be registered for classes. The application will be processed within 48 business hours after it is submitted. To be sure that the application has been received make sure that you see the confirmation notice that appears after submitting the application. After it is processed you will receive information sent to the email address you used on the application. The information in the email is extremely important, please read it carefully and comply with any instructions or requests. Once you have received your Student ID you will be able to access the General Scholarship Application.
    1. To help prepare for the General Scholarship Application here are a few items you will need to have when completing the application:
    2. Prepare a 500 word easy
      1. New Students: “How would this scholarship help you succeed at SJC and in your area of study?”
      2. Returning Students: “Describe your most meaningful achievement and how they relate to your field of study and your future goals?”

It is encouraged to use word processing tool to confirm that your essay is grammatically accurate. Once you have prepared your essay please copy and paste into the text box.

  1. Obtain the most recent High School Transcript and College transcript that is other than San Jacinto College to be uploaded via the Scholarship Application.
  2. Obtain the FAFSA SAR (Student Aid Report) to upload via the Scholarship Application
    1. The Student Aid Report (SAR) is a one-page summary of the data you submitted on your FASFA application and indicates your official Expected Family Contribution (EFC). You will only need the Student Aid Report for upload not your entire FASFA application.
  3. Prepare a list of Extracurricular Activities and Volunteer Activities that you may have been involved in.
  4. Prepare a list of any awards, honors, prizes, etc. that you may have received.
  1. “List of Scholarships” title should be removed as well as the list of scholarships. The up to date list will be in AcademicWorks with descriptions and any extra requirements for the student to view. This will be available even if they do not log into AcademicWorks. To replace this we would like to add “Frequent Asked Questions” as the title and have a drop down menu allowing the student to view all FAQs.

  1. Who can apply?
    1. Students who have filled out the new student application and are enrolled at San Jacinto College are eligible to apply for scholarships opportunities.


  1. Can I only apply for scholarships opportunities that are recommended to me?
    1. No, the system will suggest scholarships opportunities based on your general scholarship application. You may browse all scholarships to identify and apply to scholarships opportunities for which you may be qualified.


  1. Is there a limit of how many recommended scholarship opportunities I can apply?
    1. There is no limit of how many recommended scholarship opportunities you can apply.  Be sure to review any additional requirements needed when applying for these scholarships.


  1. I could not sign into the general scholarship application and opportunities website. What do I do?
    1. You must have a G# and be an enrolled student at San Jacinto College. If you are an enrolled student at San Jacinto College please contact our Grants Management or Foundation department.

  2. How do I upload a transcript?
    1. The general scholarship application cannot access your transcripts from your High School or previously college you attended from our Admissions Office. Be sure to have your official documents already scanned in PDF format and click upload in the scholarship application. Select the PDF that you need to be upload and press submit.


  1. How do I know I am a scholarship recipient?
    1. You will receive a notification via your San Jacinto College student email. Please check your email for official notification of an award. All official notifications from San Jacinto College will be sent to you via your student email account. Check frequently!


  1. How do I search for scholarship opportunities?
    1. You must have a G# and be enrolled at San Jacinto College. Also, you must first complete the general scholarship application before searching and applying for scholarships.
      1. Once the general scholarship application is completed use the search by Keyword option located on the opportunities page. Type in broad searches such as:

“Theat” for Theater

“Process” for Process Technology

  1. What are supplemental questions on various scholarships opportunities?
    1. Certain scholarships opportunities have supplemental questions to qualify for the scholarship. The potential recipient needs to make sure these questions are completed best to their ability.


  1. What is considered a Full-Time student vs. a Part-Time student?
    1. Full Time Student is 12 or more credit hour per semester.
    2. Part Time Student is 12 or less credit hour per semester.


  1. Can I save my general application and come back later?
    1. Yes! You may save and return to your general application or individual scholarship applications. Scholarship opportunities will appear in “Drafted” on your Home Tab.


  1. Why do some scholarship opportunities have award amounts and other opportunities state varies, and installments?
    1. Certain donors have not specified an award amount for some scholarship opportunities and will be listed as varies. Installments will be paid based on the installments indicated in the award field. For example, if an award is noted installments of 2 and the total award is $1,000 then it will be broken down into 2 installments of $500.


  1. I have viewed all scholarship opportunities and see “Ended” in the deadline column. Why do these opportunities still show within the scholarship system?
    1. The “Ended” scholarship opportunities are no longer able to be applied during this scholarship opening. They are still visible for users to see and make note of future scholarship opportunities. Please note that award amounts for these “Ended” scholarships may change in the future as funds are not guaranteed and are affected by available funding.
