Jeannie Peng-Armao -- November 11, 2013

PASADENA, Texas – San Jacinto College will host its annual Engineering Day on Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013.

This event, free and open to the public, will begin at 2:30 p.m., and conclude at 5:45 p.m. Representatives from universities and engineering programs from across Texas are scheduled to attend. There will be three sessions hosted throughout the afternoon on the topics of the various educational and career pathways in engineering and about the job of an engineer. Recent graduates will also return to share their experiences as current engineering majors at universities.

Engineering falls within the STEM fields - science, technology, engineering, and math. Approximately one-third of jobs in Houston are in STEM-related fields, with engineering making up more than a quarter, 29 percent, of those jobs, according to a recent Brookings analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data. Nationally, engineers with four-year degrees bring home anywhere from $54,000 to over $100,000 a year, according to the BLS.

Engineering Day 2013 will be held in the Central Campus science building, C-19. San Jacinto College Central Campus is located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.  Space is limited, and registration is encouraged. To register, visit http://tinyurl.com/SJCEngineering2013.
