Volleyball to play for nation’s military and patriots

PASADENA, Texas – The San Jacinto College volleyball team is hosting a Patriots Day Tournament this weekend, but it’s about much more than a game on the court.

San Jacinto College, Western Texas College, Hill College, Hillsborough Community College, and Victoria College will all participate in this weekend’s tournament. Donations will be accepted on both days, and all proceeds collected will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. This donation will be from all five colleges participating in the tournament.

“We wanted a way to honor our nation’s military and patriots, and their families, and thank them for their service to our country,” said 12th year Head Coach Sharon Nelson. “We encourage fans to wear red on Friday and a patriotic shirt on Saturday to show support for all who serve. We will also hold a moment of silence to remember those who are currently deployed, those who gave some, and those who gave all.”

The Patriots Day Tournament begins Friday, Sept. 6, at 12 p.m., when fourth-ranked San Jacinto College (4-4) takes on Western Texas College. All matches will be played at Anders Gymnasium on the San Jacinto College Central Campus, located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.
