The Legend Continues

San Jacinto College’s all-time record over a 45-year span is 1,318-306 entering the 2006-2007 season, which represents the best winning percentage at the collegiate level. The team finished fourth in the conference regular season standings in 2005-2006 but rallied to win the Region 14 tournament. Thus, the team made a record 19th trip to the national tournament. There, the team won one game and lost two as part of a hard-luck trip. The team has won four national crowns – in 1968, 1983, 1984 and 1986. The Ravens won 20 straight conference titles from 1973-1993 and have seen 18 players go on to earn All-America honors. Eighteen Ravens have become NBA draftees, including former Houston Rocket Steve Francis, now of the New York Knicks, who played a season at Maryland before becoming the second overall pick in the 1999 NBA draft. Sam Cassell, who played with the Ravens from 1989-91, was a first round pick of the Rockets in the 1993 draft after leaving Florida State. During his rookie season in 1993-94, Cassell helped the Rockets defeat the New York Knicks for the NBA World Championship. He is now with the Los Angeles Clippers.
