Jeff Ham
Assistant Coach

Jeff Ham’s 10-year stay at San Jacinto College and the success he’s seen has gone largely unrecognized. Perhaps the 2005 season changed all of that.

Named a Region 14 District M co-coach of the year along with head coach Sharon Nelson, Ham helped the Ravens end a national tournament drought that had dated back to 1994. As the Ravens worked to regain national prominence, Ham’s work has been a key.

He began his career at San Jacinto College as an assistant to Becky Lidolph, served one season as interim head in 2001 and now has been a mainstay alongside Nelson for four seasons. No matter his role, Ham has excelled.

While the veteran assistant coach prefers to let the players accept the biggest role in the success of the program, he acknowledges what has been a great decade of work.

“I was brought in by Becky Lidolph before she retired (after the 2000 season), and she told me stories all the time about San Jacinto College and the way the program used to be,” Ham said. “She spent so many years working to build this program up from scratch and she helped me so much getting started that I wanted to get this program back on track from the first day I walked in.

”Apparently Ham listened well and was able to develop the proper formula for success. Since he arrived, the program has been on a steady rise.

“I really think the players who have helped rebuild the San Jacinto program have been the key.

”A graduate of Clear Creek High School in League City, Ham has carved out a nice career at San Jacinto College, culminating in him and Nelson surpassing the 100-win mark as a duo for their careers. Now that the Ravens have again tasted national success, Ham knows the journey has only begun.
