Benefits

Benefits for eligible full-time employees:

In addition, employees may, at their option, elect dependent medical and dental insurance. The college will pay toward dependent coverage at rates authorized by the board. The employee is responsible for the remaining premium.

Currently, employees may enroll in one medical plan - HealthSelect of Texas, a preferred provider organization, allowing the member to select a physician of their choice or a primary care provider. Most employees will have a ninety-day waiting period before benefits become effective.

The District also offers two dental plans, a dental indemnity plan administered by the Government Employees Hospital Association and a dental maintenance offered by Aetna. Dental indemnity is a traditional dental plan that allows the member to select a dentist of their choice, and dental maintenance requires that the member use a specific dentist contracted by the corporation to provide dental services at a discount to the member.

The employee may purchase additional life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, short-term disability insurance, dependent term life insurance & vision insurance, legal protection insurance or elect to participate in TEXFLEX, our tax-saving plan for qualified health and childcare expenses.

Vacation and Sick Leave:

Full-time employees earn paid vacation time as follows:

Years Hours Per Year
1 - 8 80
9 - 15 120
16 - 24 160
25 + 200

Full-time employees receive paid sick leave at a rate of eight hours per month. Sixteen hours per year of your sick leave may be used for personal business.

**Note for 12 month employees - No vacation time should be scheduled from August 4 through September 1, 2008 due to the college's fall registration guidelines. Any campus employee with a vacation scheduling conflict should address the same with the appropriate campus Vice President of Student Services. District employees with a similar conflict should address their appeal to their Vice Chancellor.
