Located among the trees at 5800 Uvalde is San Jacinto College's North campus, which now registers more than 4,000 day and evening students each semester. The campus opened classes on its site in the fall of 1975 following five semesters of extension classes at North Shore High School. This campus, north of the Houston Ship Channel, now has an administration/classroom building, a learning resource center, a library which was completed in 1994, two occupational-technical buildings, a fine arts building, a complete gymnasium and greenhouse, a natatorium, a child care building, and construction and automotive buildings. A newly renovated baseball complex and tennis courts are among the athletic facilities.
The South campus, located on 114 acres at 13735 Beamer Road in southeast Houston, opened in 1979 with more than 1,200 students after several semesters extension classes at J. Frank Dobie High School. Today,enrollment stands at more than 5,000. Buildings include an administration/classroom building, a library which was completed in1994, a technical-vocational building, an all-purpose gymnasium, an auto paint and body building and a child care center. Athletic facilities include baseball and soccer fields and tennis courts.
Since 1973, San Jacinto College has also taught classes at Clear Creek High School in League City. The Clear Creek Extension Center allows Clear Creek ISD residents to take courses at in-district tuition rates.
In May 1981 the Board of Regents established a district office. District personnel moved into a building at 4624 Fairmont in Pasadena during the summer of 1982.
San Jacinto College has experienced much growth since September 1961. Enrollment has grown from 876 to some 20,000, and the college offers more than 100 programs in the technical and academic areas. The college continues to study the educational needs of its constituents and will endeavor to maintain a comprehensive program.
First accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in1966, the San Jacinto College District received its most recent reaccreditation from that association in 1989. The college district is also a member of the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities.
