Policy IV-B-3: Policy on Harassment
Policy on Harassment

It is the policy of The San Jacinto College District to provide an educational, employment, and business environment free of sexual harassment. Sexual harassment is a form of sex discrimination, which is not tolerated by the district. The college has implemented a specific procedure to review and resolve complaints of sexual harassment by any member of the college community, including faculty, staff or students. Each supervisor has the responsibility to maintain a work place free of sexual harassment. This responsibility includes discussing this policy with all employees and assuring them that they are not to endure insulting, degrading, or exploitative sexual treatment.

Definitions

Sexual harassment is defined as unwelcome advances, requests for sexual favors, other verbal or physical sexual conduct, or any other offensive unequal treatment of an employee, student or group of employees or students that would not occur except for their sex, when

  1. advances, requests or conduct have the effect of interfering with performance of duties/studies or creating an intimidating, hostile, or otherwise offensive work or academic environment; or
  2. submission to or rejection of such advances, requests or conduct is used as a basis for employment or academic decisions; or
  3. submission to such advances, requests, or conduct is explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of an individual's employment or academic achievement or advancement.
