5-16 Performance Review of Faculty
All full-time faculty members go through a formal review process in the first year of employment by the college. Thereafter, full-time instructors go through the process every other year. Except when annual evaluations are requested by either the faculty or supervisors, full-time instructors who are employed in even-numbered years complete the review process in even-numbered years; instructors employed in odd-numbered years complete the process in odd-numbered years.
All new adjunct instructors are evaluated during their first semester of employment. In each year after that, they are evaluated during the first semester that they teach. Adjunct instructors who have taught for at least four semesters complete the review process only once every other year. (Those who were initially employed in even-numbered years are evaluated in even-numbered years; those who were initially employed in odd-numbered years are evaluated in odd-numbered years.) In any of these cases, either supervisors or the adjunct faculty themselves may request that the evaluations be done more often.
Associate deans and department chairmen conduct evaluations of faculty following a calendar established by the Chancellor's Cabinet. Evaluations will follow a format and procedure approved by the Chancellor's Cabinet that emphasizes clearly stated criteria. Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that all faculty are aware of evaluation criteria and that all parts of the evaluation process are completed fully and in accordance with the calendars established for this purpose. Each faculty member will have the opportunity to discuss the completed performance review with his or her supervisor and to prepare a response to the review. The response will be included in the permanent performance-review packet for inclusion in the faculty member's personnel file. Supervisors will discuss the results of the faculty-performance review with the Vice Presidents of Instruction and with the campus Presidents. Original copies of the completed evaluation instruments and supporting correspondence will be filed in the Human Resources Office. Copies will be made of evaluation materials upon the request of a faculty member.
The college will conduct student evaluation of instruction following a calendar and format approved by the Chancellor's Cabinet. Supervisors are responsible for studying student-evaluation material and discussing it with faculty and, as appropriate, with the Vice Presidents of Instruction.
The faculty performance-review process will be evaluated following a calendar established by the Chancellor's Cabinet.
