TSI Requirements Deferred for Students Who Are Not Seeking a Degree or Certificate

Students who declare that they are not seeking a degree or certificate, and have earned less than fifteen college-level credit hours (at all institutions) may defer both the required assessment and developmental education provisions of the TSI. Students with this status must meet listed course skill prerequisites; thus testing may be required. Students in this non-degree seeking status are not eligible for most state or federal financial aid.

Withdrawing from Required Developmental Studies
Student Initiated Withdrawal

Students enrolled in more than one area of required developmental studies may withdraw from all but their last (only) required developmental course without prior approval.

Students enrolled in only one area of required developmental studies may, under exceptional circumstances and for one semester only, withdraw from their only required developmental course. Students must meet with a counselor to obtain approval and to discuss their individual developmental education program.

Faculty Initiated Withdrawal

Faculty teaching required developmental courses may, at their discretion and following the rules presented in their course syllabus, withdraw students for lack of attendance or lack of participation in the course. Such a withdrawal will count as the students’ one semester of deferred developmental studies.

Retesting

Students may retest once each semester on the COMPASS at no additional cost to the student at any time during the retesting window. The retesting window for Spring 2005 begins January 27, 2005 and ends April 1, 2005. Students who wish to retest on the COMPASS must first obtain a testing referral form from a counselor. Students may retest on the THEA at their own expense at any time following the guidelines published by the test provider, National Evaluation Systems (NES). Students should visit with a counselor to obtain information on the THEA or campus based Quick THEA.
