The San Jacinto Foundation

Andy Pettitte

The Ninth Annual San Jacinto College Foundation Golf Tournament featuring Houston Astros pitcher Andy Pettitte will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at Battleground Golf Course, 1600 Georgia, Deer Park.

This year’s benefit tournament features two rounds of golf in a Florida scramble format, with a 7:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. start. Morning round golfers will enjoy lunch between the two rounds and afternoon golfers will enjoy a light dinner at the end of their round. Golfers are encouraged to register early as both rounds of golf have historically been sellouts.

Battleground Golf Course is a public golf course which has developed a remarkable reputation since opening in April 1996. Fourteen of the 18 holes offer a water hazard, making this course uniquely challenging.

On Tuesday, Nov. 3, an auction/reception will be held at Battleground the evening before the tournament. Bidders will vie for top packages which include a trip to St. Andrews, Scotland, the birthplace of golf; Las Vegas trips; jewelry; and sports memorabilia. No ticket is necessary to the event. Last year’s event was emceed by John Granato, KILT talk show host, who had the audience captivated as he interviewed Pettitte on stage.

Pettitte is an alumnus of San Jacinto College where he was drafted by the Yankees in 1995. Fellow teammate and alumnus Roger Clemens, in addition to other area major league ballplayers, join Pettitte as he helps the foundation raise money for student scholarships benefiting all three San Jacinto College campuses. The Andy Pettitte Endowed Scholarship was established in 2000 and each year recipients of the scholarship join Pettitte on stage at the reception to show their appreciation for his efforts.

The San Jacinto College Foundation is a 501(C) 3 not-for-profit foundation organized under Texas law and fiscally and organizationally separate from the college. The mission of the San Jacinto College Foundation is to enhance the level of student achievement and excellence at San Jacinto College.

Several sponsorship packages are available. For more information about the tournament, please call Nancy Thacker at (281) 998-6104.
