Shawn Silman
Head Coach

Shawn Silman has found a home at San Jacinto College, and is looking forward to great things as he begins his 11th season as head coach of the women’s basketball program.

Although Silman admits he never expected to be in one spot for a decade, his experiences as the college have taught him differently.

Silman and his wife, Susan, a former high school basketball standout, have seen their children positively affected by the game. Their children Erin (7), Kara (3) and Noah (6 months) have been and will continue to be around the basketball court.

“My family has been extremely supportive during my stay here,” Silman said. “Susan is now a physical education instructor at an elementary school. Our children have varying personalities, but they love the game. Susan and I have been fortunate to be able to be around the game of basketball. It’s our chance to help young people.”

Silman enters the 2006-2007 season with a career record of 105-185 over the previous 10 seasons. The team last made the Region 14 tournament in 2002-2003, but Silman knows he’s made a difference. He’s looking forward to building on his work.

“When I came here we hadn’t been to the regional tournament in a long time,” Silman remembers. “We broke a 19-year drought when we advanced in 2001-2002. This is probably the toughest region in the nation. There have been some years in which we caught some tough breaks, but overall we’ve had a good run here.”

Silman, who became athletic director of the North campus prior to the 2004-2005 year, also enjoys keeping tabs on the other athletic programs at San Jacinto College. He knows about SJC’s many national tournament berths and how many star-studded rosters there have been at SJC.

“San Jacinto College is not only a great educational institution but also is home to some of the finest athletic programs in the nation,” Silman said. “Overall, I can’t think of any other junior college that has enjoyed the successes we’ve had. I’m proud to be associated with the college and every day I come to work ready to make a difference.”

Kyle Dray
Assistant Coach

Kyle Dray is set to begin his third season with San Jacinto College, where he has played an instrumental role in the growth of the program.

Dray was a volunteer for two seasons before coming on board as the full-time assistant before the 2004-2005 season. He plays a vital role in recruiting not only the top talent in the Houston area but also from around the state.

“Kyle does a fantastic job for us, and I couldn’t do it without him,” head coach Shawn Silman noted. “On and off the court, Kyle understands what we are trying to do and the type of player we want in the program.”

Adrian “Juice” Young
Assistant Coach

Adrian “Juice” Young is back for his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Gators. He focuses primarily on the day-to-day floor operations with the team. He is a graduate of Channelview High School and played varsity football and basketball there.

Adrian makes sure the team is squared away with their travel plans, handles the equipment concerns and helps on the court in all areas during practice.
