San Jacinto College to host information session for free process technology operator training

PASADENA, Texas – On Saturday, July 26, San Jacinto College’s Continuing & Professional Development division will host an information session regarding free fast track process technology training to prepare qualified applicants for entry-level process technician positions in Houston.

The free training is available for those who qualify. Requirements include attending the July 26 information session; having a high school diploma or GED; passing a drug and background check; operating the College’s pilot unit; the ability to speak and read English; at least five years of successful job experience; and performing well on various pre-employment assessments.

Process technician positions in the petrochemical/refining or other manufacturing industries are in high demand and have starting salaries of $40,000 a year or more.  Due to the growth in the industry, getting into this field is a great option for those considering a career change.

“Applicants interested in this career path are invited to attend the information session,” said Sherry Jones, Executive Director of the Continuing & Professional Development division.  “During this session, they will be exposed to a realistic job preview that includes briefings by representatives from the petrochemical and refinery industry and tours of the plants.  This experience will give them a true picture of what it would be like to work at a plant as an operator before the training starts.”

The free training is an accelerated training program that will take 10 weeks to complete.  Starting in September this training will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All training will take place at the San Jacinto College Central campus located at 8060 Spencer Highway in Pasadena.

Space is limited and interested applicants must attend the information session scheduled for Saturday, July 26, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the San Jacinto College Central campus. To register for the session please call 281-478-2786 or e-mail cpd@sjcd.edu.
