Men's Soccer seeded fifth in NJCAA national tournament

HOUSTON, Texas - As the fifth seed in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) national tournament, the San Jacinto College men's soccer team will face fourth-seeded, and defending champion, Jefferson College in first round action on Thursday, November 14, at 2 p.m., in Tyler.

The men earned a spot in the national tournament after defeating Ranger College and Northern Oklahoma this past weekend in the Mid-Southwest District Championship.  The trip to the national tournament is the third for San Jac (16-2-1) in the last four years.   San Jac finished third in 2004 and fourth in 2005.

“This is always an exciting opportunity that never gets old,” said fourth-year head coach Dr. David Santesteban.  “I'm so happy for this group of players as they have worked very hard and have overcome many challenges this season.  I only hope that we can play well and bring home the first soccer championship for San Jac.”

San Jac's 2-0 decision over Northern Oklahoma on Sunday also marked career win number 100 for Santesteban.  He owns a record of 67-11-5 while at San Jacinto College.  Prior to his arrival on the South campus in 2004, Santesteban was the head coach at Southwestern Oregon Community College.
