San Jacinto College recently signed an agreement with Capella University that enables any San Jacinto College graduate or employee who enrolls in online courses or programs with Capella to have application fees waived and to also receive a 10 percent discount on tuition.

The transfer agreement between San Jacinto College and Capella is only available to San Jac students who have completed an associate degree and to current employees of the College.

Capella University, with main offices in Minneapolis, Minnesota, offers a wide range of college degree options via the Internet. The university, founded in 1993, does not operate a traditional campus.

Dr. Sarah Janes, academic dean at San Jacinto College North, says the transfer agreement with Capella demonstrates how San Jac continually strives to keep in step with the times by offering graduates flexible and convenient learning options. “We want to provide graduates and employees with as many opportunities as possible to further their education,” commented Janes. “Realizing many graduates and employees lead busy lives with many responsibilities that may hinder them from attending classes in the traditional face-to-face format, San Jacinto College looked carefully at the partnership opportunity with Capella, a comprehensive online institution. Capella’s accessibility of classes at the junior and senior level and beyond in an online format can provide San Jacinto College graduates and employees flexible options for fulfilling degree requirements.”

Before signing the partnership agreement, a group of San Jacinto College administrators researched the history and standing of Capella University.  The group found that other institutions had similar, positive partnerships with online universities, and that Capella’s instruction and faculty will benefit San Jacinto College graduates and employees who opt to enroll in the online school’s programs. “Current San Jacinto College employees who are taking courses through Capella provide ample proof of the high academic standards maintained by the university,” remarked Janes.
