Coyotes Find 4-Year Stops |
In just two seasons on the job, San Jacinto College South head coach Dave Santesteban has made good on his promise to find future collegiate homes for his players. Between the 2004 and 2005 seasons, as many as 11 Coyotes went on to four-year institutions to play soccer. Most importantly, these players are furthering their educations. “As much as we all want to win a national championship, the big key for me is to help our guys not only develop as soccer players but as wellrounded young men. Getting a college degree is certainly the most important objective.” Head coaches and talent scouts flock to the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament each year in search of not only the top players but top students. Obviously, the Coyote players have been impressive. Some of the players from the 2004 and 2005 teams have also earned academic scholarships to attend four-year schools. “I think the message is clear,” Santesteban said. “If you come to San Jacinto College South to play soccer and you handle your business in the classroom, you have an outstanding chance of earning some help to get to the next level. “Seeing players earn a degree is the focus, and soccer can be a connection to that end. Having a reputation of being able to guide players along also helps in the recruiting process, but in the end we’re here to help young men better themselves.” Here are the players who have moved on to compete at 4-year programs: Ardalan Attar ‘05 University of San Francisco (D-I) |
