SJC student, Amber Bratton, proves that it’s possible to go to school and be a mom.
“I have always wanted to finish my education so that I could better myself and the future for me and my children and so I could apply my knowledge in a field I enjoyed.”
Amber Bratton began going to San Jacinto College during her first marriage but decided it would be better to work and stay home with her son. She planned to return to San Jacinto but with the birth of her second child and the financial burden of a divorce, she never could find the time or money to go back.
Amber finally decided no matter what, she was going to return to San Jacinto College to get her education. “The biggest thing that has helped me along the way has been the financial aid for my tuition and books and also scholarships from San Jac for my children’s daycare. If I had not had those things, continuing would have been much harder,” said Amber. With the help of financial aid and the financial support of her new husband, Amber is now able to go to school full time.
Amber also added, “I would like to tell anyone that has had a similar experience to me to not give up on your dreams. Don’t let anyone tell you the time is not right, because it’s going to be tough no matter what. It might seem tough, but it is definitely worth the effort you put forth and you will not regret it! Just keep going, you can do it.”
Cassandra Gutierrez, a first generation college student decided getting an education at San Jacinto College was the path leading to her future success.
