SJC student Micah Ryan is living proof that the college’s Engineering Design Graphics (EDG) department can indeed open doors to opportunity.

“The education and training I’ve received from San Jac has been immeasurable,” said Ryan, who lives in La Porte and works for S&B Engineers & Constructors. “The EDG department prepared me to make a positive contribution at work almost immediately. San Jac’s Advanced AutoCAD class has given me the knowledge to assist my fellow co-workers with relative problems that they may encounter, and answer questions about AutoCAD that helps to make us more efficient.”

Ryan said that his courses at San Jac have truly helped him to make rapid advancements. “Let me put it this way, S&B gave me a 10.25% raise after only three and a half months of employment,” he said. “I enrolled in the EDG program at San Jac without a shred of experience in engineering, computer aided drafting, or technical drafting of any kind, and had not been in a classroom for 11 years (since high school). Within a few short weeks, the EDG faculty had given me the confidence and resources to pursue an education and career in graphic engineering and design. After only two semesters and four EDG classes later, S&B hired me. Ten months prior to that I was struggling to support my family and worried about what the future held. Now I have a job that I love and my income has nearly doubled. So, what have I gotten out of my at San Jac? Everything I could have asked for and more.”
