Classes: MATH 0304, MATH 0305, MATH 0306, MATH 1314, MATH 1316, MATH 1325, MATH 1332, MATH 1333, MATH 1350, MATH 1351, MATH 2312, MATH 2318, MATH 2320, MATH 2413, MATH 2414

Hey! My name is Bijan. In addition to being a Math Lab tutor, I'm an SI Leader in all kinds of math subjects and a math major at UH. I fell in love with math in 11th grade when I saw the movie "A Beautiful Mind." Even though the movie is not entirely about math (as it's more about relationships and struggle), I watched the main character (played by Russell Crowe) engage himself in complicated problems, and I wanted to do that too. Being a Math Lab tutor has been a blast so far. I feel twangs of joy when I help a student understand their homework and feel less stressed out. One day, I'd like to apply mathematics to social situations to find out how we can all feel less stressed out, as well as improve our lives in a precise way. As for my non-mathematical pleasures, I like computers and interesting operating systems, such as Linux! I also like to cruise around on my skateboard and not fall off!

Hello there! My name is Brandon Rudd and I am currently working towards my BS in Computer Science and then plan to move on to my MS in software engineering. I've been doing SI for over 3 years now and have thoroughly enjoyed it every year and now I am branching over here into math lab. Tutoring is a lot of fun because not only does it help out others, but because I learn more about the subject when having to explain it from multiple points of view. As for my personal interests I love to go bowling and if I could make a career of it I would. I am also an avid gamer that enjoys everything from the classics to the modern day games. Last, but not least, one of my greatest loves in this world is coffee.

Hey y’all! My name is Enoch. I’m currently pursuing my Associates in Science in mathematics here at sanjac. I first realized I enjoyed math in high school through my awesome math teacher; he made it not only easy, but applicable to my life (for example, you can use permutations to keep younger siblings busy for eternity. Have them arrange 10 books in every possible order of 6; tell them not to come back until done). I’m also an SI Leader for Calculus I and Trigonometry. My ultimate career goal is to be a professor of mathematics. In my spare time, I am an avid reader and can imbibe more coffee in a given day than anyone I know.

Hi everyone! My name is Eugene Garza & I am a junior at the University of Houston currently pursuing a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Additionally, I also have and AA in Mathematics. This is my first semester as a Math Lab tutor & so far it has been a fun ride! I enjoy Math as a subject & take pride in teaching it to others. I also have great passion for it as well. I've come a long way before becoming a Math Lab tutor. Once upon a time, as a student at SJC I also visited the lab to study. I spent countless hours learning, practicing & improving my Math skills. It was not an easy task but I was willing to make it possible. Impossible is nothing. So if you're willing to become a master in Math, please feel free to stop by. All of our tutors, including myself, will use everything in our power to help. My goal for all students is to help them become successful.

Classes: MATH 0304, MATH 0305, MATH 0306, MATH 1314, MATH 1316, MATH 1325, MATH 1332, MATH 1333, MATH 1350, MATH 1351, MATH 2312, MATH 2413, MATH 2414

Hello everyone! My name is Mariana Durgheu and at this time I have two targets: my first is a B.S. in Mathematics and my second is a M.S. in Mathematics. Why mathematics? Assuredly, no other curriculum could cultivate the scholar’s mind with five major aptitudes necessary in most fields of work: logic, precision, imagination, intuition, and self-discipline. In addition, it is a fact that all the technology we use today is based on mathematics. Anyway, I am so delighted to have this opportunity to tutor mathematics. I want to encourage you and let you know that it takes just a little bit of ambition, patience and perseverance to succeed in math. Don’t be anxious about math because making mistakes is the first and most important phase of the learning process. Finally, do not limit your hidden potential! No matter where your skills lie or where you struggle, we are here to help. Do not hesitate to ask any question that you may have. My ultimate goal is to help you attain success in your math courses.

Classes: MATH 0304, MATH 0305, MATH 0306, MATH 1314, MATH 1316, MATH 1324, MATH 1325, MATH 1332, MATH 1333, MATH 1342, MATH 1350, MATH 1351, MATH 2312, MATH 2413, MATH 2414, MATH 2415

Hey folks! My name is Michael and I'll be tutoring at the Math Lab for the foreseeable future. At some point, maybe after I get my master's in mathematics, I'd like to teach at a college much like this one. Right now, though, I'm just working towards my bachelor's degree. Math has pretty much been my passion ever since I can remember, and I've been informally and unprofessionally tutoring in math for well over a decade. Currently I can tutor in any math class that isn't Differential Equations or Linear Algebra, though I'm trying to fill those gaps through independent study. I might still be rusty in some subjects, so that's why you'll probably catch me with a textbook open during a slow day of tutoring. In my spare time I like to watch TV and play some older video games. I also enjoy running and being outside when the weather isn't killer. I hope I can be a great help as a tutor; I still have a lot to learn and I'm very happy for this opportunity to grow more confident as a tutor and pick up a thing or two from y'all!

SyedSyed

Classes: MATH 0304, MATH 0305, MATH 0306, MATH 1314, MATH 1316, MATH 1324, MATH 1325, MATH 1332, MATH 1333, MATH 1342, MATH 1350, MATH 1351, MATH 2312, MATH 2413, MATH 2414

Salam everyone, my name is Syed, and I am privileged to be your tutor. I’m an Accounting major at University of Houston with a minor in Fine Arts. I am the only business major in the Math Lab so I feel kind of special among my peers. As an accountant, I like to have things simple; don’t we all want that? Well, come visit me and I’ll show you how we can make math simple while having a good time. I love to visualize math, just like I do with arts and my favorite part of mathematics is overcoming challenges. You probably think of me a nerd, but I’m not. Trust me, I’ve been a math student, and it was never my strength in school; in fact it was my weakest subject. Now I’m tutoring the very subject I used to be weak at, and I want to share my secrets with you. I used to ask myself what the point of learning math was when every other subject is not related, but after working here, I’ve realized how much everything is connected and that’s what fascinates me. When you are around me, will learn about me that I don’t like to give up and I’ll make sure you don’t too! We’ll work together, and with my jolly attitude, we’ll make math simple and conquer any frustrations. So come visit me at the math lab, my jolly smile and attitude will brighten your day.

TammyTammy

Classes: MATH 0304, MATH 0305, MATH 0306, MATH 1314, MATH 1316, MATH 1324, MATH 1325, MATH 1332, MATH 1333, MATH 1342, MATH 1350, MATH 1351, MATH 2312, MATH 2413, MATH 2414

Hi! I am Tammy Zurawski and I am a tutor at the Math Lab. If you're wondering which tutor I am--I'm the one with all the gray hair!! But don't let my gray hair fool you--I am still very young at heart. I worked my way through college many years ago and have a B.S. in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering from Ohio State University (go Bucks!). I also have a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. I worked as an aerospace engineer for 10 years and then retired from engineering to be a full-time mom. Now that my kids are off to college, I decided to find a job doing something I enjoy--tutoring math! Math has always been my favorite subject. I remember in elementary school most people assumed that, as a girl, I would not be good in math. (This was before the women's movement.) I remember getting the biggest thrill when I beat all the boys. I loved breaking stereotypes, and have continued to do it all through college and beyond. My philosophy is that you can do whatever you set your mind to. And that includes succeeding in math. So, don't feel discouraged about your math skills. Come to the Math Lab and we will help you succeed.

Student Assistants

JaneyHey I'm Janey. I'm an assistant here at the Math Lab. I love working at the Math Lab because it gives me an opportunity to meet new people! I love sports and I love talking to people about sports!!! Especially football and baseball! :) In school, I am studying to be a pharmacist. I am taking my Pre Pharmacy's classes here at San Jac right now, but I will transfer to UH Pharmacy School in a year or so.

ToriHello, I’m Victoria. I am an assistant at the math lab. I love meeting new people, so stop by and say “Hi”! I love math and science, but I’m not sure what I want to do for my career. My favorite things to do are: sitting outside enjoying a beautiful day, crocheting, going on a long car trip, horseback riding, archery, tennis, and golf. My favorite place to go to get away from the world is Colorado. I also love to travel, one day I plan to go to Australia, England, Ireland, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Poland, and Liechtenstein ( because it is one of the smallest countries in the world).
