Veterans in Our Community
The Veterans in Our Community Festival is held from October 30, 2013 through Spring 2014. Our event is free and open to the public, and packed with films, speakers, and more!
We kick off with our guest, best-selling author and Afghanistan veteran WES MOORE, on October 30th, at 7:00 pm, at Slocomb Auditorium,
Then, Veterans Week (November 11th-16th) brings a kaleidoscope of perspectives - documentary and Hollywood films about veterans, sailors, soldiers and Marines from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan - plus a live audio play based on real wartime diaries, letters, and oral histories by veterans.
Our public art project, the Memory Wall, will be available at each event: draw and write a small card for the veteran, active duty or military family member in your life! You'll also hear and see excerpts from our oral history program, collecting veterans stories as part of the Library of Congress Veterans History Project.
Additional film screenings, of both Hollywood and documentary films, will be held in Spring 2014.
All events general admission and open to the public; to attend events, we suggest a donation of non-perishable food for campus food pantries.
